ART. TRAVEL. cultures.
PEOPLE. FAITH.

Over the years I have been amazed at how this cluster of interests has resurfaced again and again in various combinations—like a giant Rubik’s cube—to define the direction of my life and work.

The “art” path led me to complete a 4-year degree in Fine Art at Cardiff College of Art in Wales. After this I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where I lived and painted for the next 20 years, showing my work in a variety of one man and group shows. Over the years I have developed my own personal visual language and love working in a loose style to capture the movement and energy of a scene.

My love for travel and world cultures has led me to over 50 countries, most recently Kashmir, India and the Pacific Islands. I am fascinated by the color and vibrancy of the world’s cultures and peoples and the challenge of capturing these visual experiences on paper or canvas.

The “people” part of it led to a desire to “make a difference” in this world. After gaining a Masters in Social Work in London, I spent 11 years working in Christian community development among refugees and marginalised communities in the inner city of Oakland, California. Since coming to New Zealand, I have also been involved in refugee resettlement and supporting children at risk.

My “faith” journey took me on a 10-year search, including a year in India, for something in which I could put my whole trust. After spending time at L’Abri, Francis Schaeffer’s Christian community in Switzerland, I committed my life to Jesus. My faith-journey since then has been a part of everything I do—and my painting is carried out in recognition that any gifts or skills I have come from God and should reflect His character and creativity.

In 2000 I moved to New Zealand with my wife and daughter. I currently work from my home studio in Auckland, New Zealand.
